SIGMA

Food Production and Packaging

SIGMA is one of the world leaders in the international food industry. In response to increased demand for three new products, SIGMA decided to build a new plant in the city of Linares, state of Nuevo Leon. The unit will operate with 127 employees distributed in three organizational levels, and five departments. Initially, the consultants trained eight employees of the Logistics Department on the concepts of IC management and the use of ORDIC tools.

During the first half of 1997, selected company executives and 8 Changeland consultants worked with various parts of the plant to achieve the goals of the Six Sigma imprvement project and to facilitate: (i) the design and standardization of processes production to achieve ISO certification; (Ii) the definition of organizational requirements in specialized skills development;(Iii) the design of systems that shorten the life training cycle; (Iv) designing appropriate experience management mechanisms that will enroll know-how to develop a new plant and support the transfer of knowledge to other members of the SIGMA consortium if they decide to develop a new plant. At the end of the project (May 1997), the plant officially started operating.
